This was Mozart's 8th opera, written when he was 18. Hugo Shirley, writing in the March 2018 Gramophone (page 88), praises and recommends this as "an effective video version" of the work. He comments that director Pynkoski  directs "each singer with an impressive, engaging eye for detail . . .  and creates his own aesthetic of artful, flowing theatricality, which is underlined by Antoine Fontaine's designs."

This next-to-last opera from Richard Stauss is still a largely unexplored continent. The only two modern recordings are both listed on this website: (1) the 2011 Andrew Litton version and (2) subject title conducted by Welser-Möst at the 2016 Salzburg Festival. Hugo Shirley, writing in the Gramophone 2017 Awards issue (at pages 120-121) praises the music, pans the directing at Salzburg, and recommends the Litton version for explorers.
